Appetite for investment in Thailand 'still strong'
18 Mar 2010
The Daiwa Investment Conference in Japan demonstrated the continued appetite and confidence in the Thai economy, according to Live Trading News.
"Discussion with Japanese investors showed that they still have confidence in Thailand and are interested in increasing their investment in the Thai stock market, as the economic situation has tended to improve," said SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai.
In particular, she pointed to real estate investment trusts as the main focus of interest for investors and the best place to gain a return.
Over 1,000 representatives of investment firms and asset management companies attended the conference, which Ms Patareeya said was a useful event for creating more liquidity in the Thai market.
The former Thai finance minister Pridiyathorn Devakula said on Monday the country's economy could grow by five per cent in the coming year, according to the Bangkok Post.
