China's equities 'may struggle in 2010'
07 Jul 2010
Equities in China could struggle in the second half of the year due to ongoing concerns about the country's expansion rate and the global economic recovery, an expert has said.
Official statistics published last week (July 1st) revealed that the manufacturing boom seen in the world's fastest-growing economy over recent years is beginning to slow down due to governmental tightening measures beginning to take effect.
The country's purchasing managers' index dipped slightly over the course of June and there is a fear among experts that this trend could potentially continue in the near future.
Meanwhile, the adversity being caused on financial markets across the world by problems such as the ongoing eurozone fiscal crisis could lead to the Chinese equity sector suffering, according to Alvin Chong, head of research at Sun Hung Kai Financial.
Mr Hong told Channel News Asia that there is currently a reduction in positive sentiment and liquidity across China.
