Investors 'returning to India's real estate sector'
02 Jul 2009
Farook Mahmood, chairman of Bangalore-based advisory firm Silverline Group, said HNIs and funds are focusing on the commercial real estate sector because of the falling rates, reports LiveMint.com.
"The returns for such properties are as high as 12 to 13 per cent compared to three to four per cent in residential projects," he commented.
Mr Mahmood's views were supported by a spokesperson for the country's second largest listed developer Unitech, who said there is great demand for office properties among HNIs in India.
He said that that Unitech is in contact with a number of HNIs, each of whom has a portfolio of 10 billion rupees ($208 million) each.
This comes after Nandita Tripathi, associate director of KPMG, said the government should help support the real estate sector in India.
