Lebanon 'seeks to end power rationing'
04 Jul 2010
A senior Lebanese official has said that the Gulf state may end its era of power rationing within the next four years.
Seasonal cuts in electricity supply have been a problem in Lebanon for some time, but the Daily Star reports that the country's energy and water minister has said that the government is doing all it can to improve supply and allow its citizens unlimited access to power.
Jebran Bassil believes that the current issues of regular shortages are not insurmountable and insists that his department will invest time and money to solve the problems.
However, he added that a period of trial and error might be necessary before a solution is found.
"Only tangible results will show whether this plan will materialise. If there is a political will then we will see 24 hours of electricity [in a] few years from now," he said.
Meanwhile, official figures show that Lebanon's real estate market continues to grow rapidly, as sales increased by 41 per cent in the first quarter of 2010.
