Morocco plans to restart construction of stalled hotel complexes
20 Jan 2010
Industry officials told Reuters that the Mogadur resort should open in July while the Lixus complex will follow later in the year.
Two other potential developments, Taghazout near Agadir and Plage Blanche in the south of Morocco, may also be resurrected soon, it was suggested.
Yassir Znagui, the country's new tourism minister, said that Morocco was hoping to record a large upturn in tourist numbers this year on the back of new hotel complexes, a wider choice of holidays and more budget flights to the country.
"We aim to realise growth of ten per cent [in 2010 tourism numbers], or three times the world trend that is forecast," he said.
Last month, the European Union granted Morocco $100 million to held fund infrastructure developments in the country.
