Omani water scheme 'will help tourism'
22 Mar 2010
An uninterrupted supply of water for Jabal al Akhdar's hamlets is set to be provided when the project is completed in 2012 - but it also hoped the development will enable some of the government's tourism-related aspirations to be realised.
This is according to Peyman Mokhtarzadeh, branch manager of Sunir, which is the Iran-based conglomerate in charge of the $74.6 million construction work.
He added the scheme has "important significant socio-economic ramifications for the mountain villages", speaking to the Oman Daily Observer.
The newspaper said Sunir won the contract to develop the project after competing against companies such as Hyundai Engineering, Gammon International and Aydiner Construction.
Established in 1994, Sunir is based in Iran and specialises in the gas, power, oil and water sectors.
