Qatar agreement to build sustainable environment for the future
An agreement has been signed in Qatar to ensure the sustainable development of the built environment, concentrating specifically on energy and water conservation.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Barwa & Qatari Diar Research Institute.

The main objective of the agreement is to emphasise the two organisations' commitment to the Qatar Vision 2030, which aims to create a sustainable built environment for future generations.

Both firms have agreed to cooperate in applying the Qatar Sustainable Assessment System (QSAS), which is designed to preserve the national image of the country while balancing economic and environmental interests.

Kahramaa's Essa Hilal Al-Kuwari said: "The choice of QSAS, as a rating system, was based on the advantages that differentiate QSAS from other practiced rating systems in the region."

Barwa Real Estate this week reported its 2009 figures, with a 154 per cent rise in profits, with total assets valued at $9.6 billion.
