Saudi Arabia 'to launch major airport construction projects'
09 Mar 2010
Plans have been announced to build a new airport in Medina and a commercial centre close to Jeddah airport.
Alaa Samman, director of business development at the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), said passenger numbers through Saudi airports were expected to double in the next ten years to around 60 million.
"We plan to offer a 25-year build, operate and transfer contract for the development of a new airport in Medina," he told the news provider.
In the Red Sea port of Jeddah, an airport city is to be created, hotels, housing, retail facilities and a brand new flight academy.
Airport developments in the state could create as many as 35,000 jobs, according to an Arabian Business report.
