UAE announces new defence policy

Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, chief executive of the OPB, spoke of the new directive during a special session in Paris ahead of today's grand opening of the Eurosatory2010, which is the world's largest meeting for land and air security officials.
The pre-cursor to the main event - which runs until June 18th - was attended by 165 delegates, including several senior officials from the UAE such as General Ali Mohamed Subaih Al Kaabi, deputy chief of staff of the country's armed forces.
Mr Al Hajeri said that the new policy had been in the pipeline for a number of years and expressed his delight that it had finally come to fruition.
"It was developed following extensive discussions among all stakeholders and based on the results of a survey by the OPB," he added.
