Dubai to introduce 'green construction regulations'
10 Mar 2010
The investment in green principles will see Dubai become the first Middle Eastern city to apply such regulations.
The new green regulations are set to implement developments required to provide a certain level of efficiency for electricity and water through the use of renewable energy.
Saaeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and CEO of the Dubai electricity and water authority (Dewa) who issued the requirements, noted the rules would initially apply to new constructions.
"In the initial stage, all new buildings will be required to comply with the codes and regulation and incorporate them in their construction designs," said Mr Al Tayer.
In Abu Dhabi, the department of transport has introduced environmentally-friendly trikkes that will be used by the area's parking inspectors.
The trikkes are lightweight, chainless and pedal-less three-wheeled vehicles. The department indicated they had been introduced to help contribute to protecting the environment.
