Qatar 'announces new infrastructure projects worth $10bn'
10 Mar 2010
The announcement came from the country's public works authority, Ashghal, which will seek to award the five projects as part of an ongoing investment in infrastructure.
The projects form part of a $20 billion purse that has been reserved for road construction and infrastructure upgrades over a five-year period.
Jamal Al Kaabi, the acting manager of Ashghal's design department indicated that these projects were just the first stage however, noting that areas such as the airport and a new financial centre were under consideration.
Mr Al Kaabi highlighted the use of the $20 billion, saying: "While $12 billion is earmarked for road and infrastructure like electrical wiring, water, rail, roads, street lighting and road furniture, $8 billion is for drainage."
The American chamber of commerce has previously indicated that it will help Qatar achieve greater visibility in the United States by helping strengthen the country's private sector.
